Meth Use Is on the Rise – What to Do

Methamphetamine, aka meth, is a strong stimulant that is mainly used in treating ADHD or sleep disorders.

The drug is misused recreationally, causing a rushing high that can be difficult to maintain. Meth also affects saliva production and substance, resulting in tooth decay, often referred to as meth mouth. Despite this, use of meth is on the rise, and more people are struggling with meth addiction than ever before. Our drug treatment center explores the growing meth epidemic and shares guidance on treating the problem.

How Addictive Is Meth?

Meth is used in several forms, including crystal meth. Any form of meth can be extremely addictive, with users getting hooked on the feel-good effects of the drug quickly. One single use is enough for the brain to get hooked on the effects of the drug, and multiple uses can increase tolerance and set the stage for full-blown addiction.

If you or someone you love is addicted to meth, our team at Banyan Boca is here to help. Call 888-280-4763 for help treating this addiction.

Why Is Meth Addiction Growing?

Meth addiction is growing nationwide, with overdose deaths involving methamphetamine doubling from 2010 to 2014 alone.1 From 2011 to 2016, emergency room visits related to meth have jumped 600% in San Francisco alone. [2] There are several theories related to the increasing problem of meth addiction: easier access to meth, greater affordability, and the extreme addiction the drug can cause. Though the opioid epidemic is still a major challenge nationwide, meth addiction is proving to be problematic as well.

Treating Meth Addiction

Getting sober from methamphetamine addiction begins with meth detox. During detox, patients are given medical monitoring and support to ensure safe and comfortable detoxification. We mitigate withdrawals and support patient comfort throughout the entire detox process. After detox, patients enter the next stage of treatment to address the underlying factors of their meth addiction.

Meth is a dangerous drug that’s worsening nationwide. But help is out there, call our Banyan Boca team at 888-280-4763 to learn how we can help treat meth addiction.
